In this post: CBD oil has been a hot topic recently, so I investigated what it is, why you would use it, and whether or not it’s legal.
A while ago, I was talking with a friend of mine about how she treated molluscum contagiosum on her kids. She said that she used CBD oil. I had never heard of it before, so I made a note to research this type of oil and learn more about it. Here’s what I found out.
What Is CBD Oil?
According to NuLeafNaturals.com,
“Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally-occurring constituent of industrial hemp (cannabis sativa) plants. It is the most abundant non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis and is being scientifically investigated for numerous reasons. Most people have heard of a cannabinoid called THC, which is the ingredient in cannabis that gets users high. Unlike THC, CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and does not cause a high.”
So, even though its cousin plant is known for its abilities to get you high, CBD oil will not. In fact, you can think of CBD oil just like any other essential oil derived from plants.
So, What Do You Use It For?
It’s not uncommon for people to claim that certain oils help relieve certain issues. For example, some people believe lavender relaxes you and citrus oils like orange and grapefruit oils energize you. While there is a strong general consensus that these claims are true (at least for some people), they haven’t been scientifically proven.
Still, for people searching for a homeopathic way to improve their issue, trying oil is a relatively inexpensive way to trouble-shoot. According to Healthline.com, here are some potential benefits of CBD oil. It could:
- relieve pain,
- reduce anxiety and depression,
- alleviate cancer-related symptoms,
- reduce acne,
- have neuroprotective properties,
- benefit heart health,
- have antipsychotic effects,
- be a treatment for substance abuse,
- prevent the spread of tumors, and
- help prevent diabetes.
CBD oil may be taken orally or topically. If you’re going to take it orally, I suggest you follow the directions on the bottle or from your caregiver. To use this oil topically, you should blend it with coconut or hemp oil and apply it in your desired area.
But, It May Not Be Legal, Depending on Where You Live.
Because the amount of THC (the chemical that makes people get high) is so low, CBD oil can be sold and shipped in the United States and many other countries. However, if you live or travel overseas, you will want to double check your country’s laws. For example, some countries have such strict laws against drugs that this oil would be considered illegal. So, double check before you bring this oil on any overseas trips since trying to bring it into certain countries could get you arrested.
