I’m not one to toot my own horn or brag. I shy away from discussing my achievements, but this is just too big of a deal to me. I have to take a minute to tell you about my most recent big accomplishment.
My Big Accomplishment
Recently, my fabulous web designer sister-in-law helped me redesign my website. Although I was really happy with my old design, it wasn’t translating onto mobile devices; and it wasn’t telling the story that I wanted to tell. It was a sort of boring design with a bunch of information smashed in. It felt like an awkward teenager, and I decided that I was ready to move on.
Moving on can be an easier-said-than-done situation. I wanted a better website, but there were things that I really loved about my old site–things that I knew I would have to get rid of in order to make room for new material. After many deep breaths and some pep talks, I decided that change is good. This change involved finding and installing a new theme.
It’s important for you to know that, in order to create my website, I followed step-by-step instructions from a book or two. I have no particular savvy for web design, and everything that I do know I have read in either a book or a how-to blog post. When you change your theme, especially from a back-end builder to a front-end builder like I did, it feels like everything you learned just became inapplicable.
The New Theme
I switched my theme and a whole new list of issues came forward, things I have never thought of. My very first issue was that I couldn’t find my content–any of it. Unwilling to leave my website hanging, I fumbled around, trying to figure out what to do, trying to learn this new theme.
It didn’t work. After hours of time and effort, I found myself in the exact same spot where I started. I called my sister-in-law for help. To my utter surprise, just hours later she had a whole new front page designed for me. It was beautiful!
We made plans for me to go over to her house the next day to learn how to operate this new theme. She worked with me for four hours on Labor Day Sunday, teaching me how to create, edit, and navigate through my new theme. Then, I came home and spent countless hours tweaking the design over the next three days. Finally, I feel like my site is ready.
What’s on My Site
Now that I’m proud of the design and layout of my site, I feel like I want to shout about it from the rooftops.
“I did something really hard, and it looks really good!”
Feel free to go explore my site! I’m so excited that I finally get to feature a picture of my studio. My studio is truly my home away from home. It’s where I meet with clients, fit in my own workouts, film videos, and think about all things that are body/mind related. Find this picture on my favorite page, my Home page.
On that page, I’m really excited to offer buttons for the topics of Yoga, Pilates, Health, Recovery, and Wellness. These buttons will lead you to pages that contain lists of only articles on these topics. Plus, there are bonus links inside some of these pages.
For example, if you want to see all of the posts that are about my broken neck, there’s a link for that under the Recovery button. All the anatomy lovers might want to check out the link to all of the anatomy posts under the Health section. Of course, you can get to these pages from the main navigation bar as well.
Please, go check out the website!
What do you think? What else should I have? Let me know in the comments section below. Also, if you are interested in enlisting the help of my sister-in-law or getting more information about the theme that I’m using, contact me.
