The Skinny on Beachbody

beachbodyYou may think that you’ve never heard of Beachbody, but if you have ever watched TV infomercials, I think you’ll discover that you know some of their programs. Beachbody is a company that provides fitness DVDs, digital workouts, nutritional supplements, and online coaching.

If you read my posts regularly, you might remember that I wrote about PiYo, which is a Beachbody program. Another popular program is P90X. I have personally tried P90X, and I enjoyed the challenging workouts.

Fitness Programs

Here are Beachbody’s descriptions of just a few of their programs. For more information about all of their workouts, here’s a link to their program comparison chart.

INSANITY is a 30-60 minute workout. Transform your body in 60 days with the most intense workout program ever put on DVD. MAX Interval Training—you perform long bursts of maximum-intensity exercise with short periods of rest.

PiYo is a 20-45 minute workout. Burn fat as you define every muscle in your body without straining your joints. PiYo combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga. It cranks up the speed to deliver a true fat-burning, low-impact workout that leaves your body looking long, lean, and incredibly defined.

P90X is a 45-60 minute advanced total-body training program focused on abs, legs, chest, back, and arms. It includes 12 routines that introduce new moves and challenge your muscles to get you absolutely ripped in 90 days.

21 Day Fix is a 30 minute workout that combines simple fitness with simple eating helps you see results fast. Easy-to-follow portion control and 30-minute workouts take the guesswork out of losing weight. No more counting, weighing, or measuring—just quick results.

Hip Hop Abs is a 25-45 minute calorie-burning cardio and total-body sculpting workout focused on abs and core. Fun hip hop dance moves set to hot music that burn fat and sculpt lean sexy abs.

Turbo Jam is a 20-45 minute calorie burning and total-body sculpting workout focused on abs and thighs. Kickboxing and body sculpting workouts to the hottest tunes to burn more calories than almost any other exercise.

Nutritional Supplements

Although Beachbody offers a variety of nutritional supplements, they are best known for Shakeology. Shakeology comes in 9 different flavors, but the most popular are chocolate and vanilla. The ingredients include proteins, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and probiotics.

Online Coaching

I’m not sure if they were the first ones to offer online training, but Beachbody certainly is the present industry leader. Right now, you can get a video membership that allows you to stream videos through your TV if you have a Roku, Amazon Fire, Chromecast, or Apple TV. My guess is that it is only a matter of time until an app will be available for your phones, and you can do the Beachbody workout of your choice in your gym.

A great way to find Beachbody one-on-one coaching is through Facebook. According to my friend, Beachbody Coach Brandi Sharp, each Coach has a call for action button on their Facebook page to join their community. Generally, the coach is coaching a group of peers with similar goals. This creates a supportive community. Because everyone has similar goals and uses the same products, the individuals have a lot in common.

What varies is the personalities and style of the coaches. Some coaches may be more focused on product usage while others, like Brandi, may be more spend more time on daily coaching and accountability checks. So, don’t just pick the first coach you find. Shop around!

While the coaching is free, the products are not. When you purchase products through your coach, your coach gets paid a commission.

With so many products and services available, it’s no wonder that Beachbody is such a powerhouse in the fitness industry.

  1. You missed my two favorite workout programs. Chalean Xtreme is a lifting program. Great for people who want to lift without entering a gym. If you can get enough resistance at home (I have the select weights) then it’s a really good way to get strong.

Then there is turbo fire. I love turbo fire. It’s a HIIT program. She shows you a short 30-60 second routine and then when the alarm Bell rings you go as hard and as fast as you can. I love HIIT and I’m not afraid to look silly going all out. I think it would be fun to do a live class but I haven’t found one near me yet.

When I was in my best shape between babies 3 and 4 I was doing a combination of these two workouts.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing! I don’t have a background in Beachbody, so I’m glad to have recommendations from those who know the programs.
